Apple's iPhone 4, iPad to hit China

4Videosoft News - Apple Inc may start selling iPhone 4 to mainland China in September, and it may soon bring iPad to the world's largest market through China Unicom, local media reported on Thursday.

"China Unicom has reached an agreement with Apple, and the iPhone 4 may enter the mainland market by as early as next month," China's state television reported on Thursday, citing a company brief issued during the China Internet Conference in Beijing.

Meanwhile, China Unicom has secured a deal with Apple to introduce the iPad in China, local media Caijing cited company source as saying. No timetable has yet been disclosed, the report said.

The exclusive provider of Apple's iPhone in China couldn't immediately be reached for comment, and Apple didn't reply an email inquiry.

However, Unicom executives late last month flied to US to finalize launch details regarding introducing Apple's iPhone 4 and iPad in China, Sina.com reported, citing an unnamed company source.

Apple's iPhone 4, available in 22 international markets since last month, is also shipped to Hong Kong with the cheapest price tag of HK $4,988 per unit. The iPad, which has been launched in 19 markets, is available in Hong Kong starting from HK $3,888.

China Unicom started to sell the WiFi-enabled iPhone 3GS in China last week, priced at 4,999 yuan.

However, China's Apple store started to sell the device at the same time for 3,999 yuan per unit. The WiFi-enabled iPhone 3GS was sold out in Apple's Beijing Store the first day it launched.

Unicom, the country's second largest telecom operator, on Thursday said its 3G WCDMA service subscribers increased 941,000 to 8.501 million in July.
